There is an old saying, if you love something enough to let it go it will find its way back to you. Well it wasn't a love fest when he left, but who cares? Because he has returned! Nomar back in Boston laundry even if only for a day. Timmy and Rubba Shoes discuss that circle of life and the goes around comes around mentality of the NHL. Will the Bruins retaliate against the Penguins this coming Thursday night? Rubba Shoes is off to go toy shopping and Timmy has his very first NH town meeting. Ayuh! It's all right here complete with a visit from Uncle Dukes "The Big 3" and a fantasy round up. As the Statler and Waldorf of the Wicked Pissa staff continue to nurse their respective injuries, Timmy with his left knee and Rubba Shoes with his right shoulder. The real athletes in Vancouver continue to impress and inspire all of us. Rubba Shoes is busting with anticipation over the men's hockey team and will tell you why it is appointment television, if you can find it. Tiger might have lost 17 girlfriends, but two of his favorite mimbos are back on board. Check out the guys take on his imminent return and what it means for golf. They'll also break down the Patriots pre-draft to do list and find out why it was tough to see the newest wide out in Foxboro play last year. Uncle Dukes and the BIG 3 focus on the brand new "little 4" plus prep you for the most wonderful time of the year - March Madness! Are the Sox in a position to make another deal before camp breaks? Will Big Papi still be swinging away for the local nine after the break? Why is Varitek so happy? Obvious social conquests aside (read Heidi Watney). They'll wrap with a check on the fantasy world and a tribute to the past and present olympic hockey hopefuls from an 80's movie classic. The Super Bowl of Stock Car took a bunch longer than expected due to an issue (read pothole) on the track at Daytona. So the 500 seemed more like a 750 but alas Jamie McMurray had no complaints taking the checkered flag in the end. Also no complaints coming from our current fantasy Nascar leader Rubba Shoes father-in-law. Timmy and Rubba will check in with Scotty Dukes for an All-Star weekend review and they'll also hear from Isaiah live at the track in his clients (read Budweiser) luxury suite. The boys will also discuss Rubba Shoes new ride and why one of the Red Sox pitchers is now doing short track speed skating in Vancouver. That might be a mistake...we'll see. Rubba Shoes went to the Gloves with Timmy and his Dad on Tuesday night and someone got punched in the crotch, can you guess who? Everything seems to be headed south to Florida right now. The Bruins skate twice down there before the Olympic break and Nascar is set to put on it's "Super Bowl" at the Daytona 500. Let's not forget that the equipment truck leaves soon and the Sox will open Spring training in a week. The guys check in with Scotty Dukes to see where some potential deals might be made by the Celtics before the deadline. He'll give his take on the Captains decision to make a go at the All-Star Game in Dallas. All that and a wrap on the world of fantasy sports is right here on the Wicked Pissa Dude weekend preview. We could be talking about Boston or New York, even Gainsville. Alas, it's all about Chelmsford. Coach K has done it again. He has won both the fantasy baseball and now the fantasy football championships in Wicked Pissa Nation. Annoyed, some (Uncle Dukes) shocked, none. This guy has a fricken 4 Square trophy from Russell Mill Swim & Tennis Club. Unreal! Timmy and Rubba Shoes check in with the Coach to confirm that he will make good on his promise to "buy the trophy if he wins the league." Also the guys will discuss why the Bruins game at Fenway made one of them cry. Really? We'll also get Pats predictions from the pigskin prognosticators "Dugan & Dukes." The Celtics are limping off the MASH unit and the Sox are most likely done shopping for the groceries right? So, how is dinner gonna taste this Summer? Well, Tiger needs a mulligan. Ok, five or more. The Winter Meetings are not heating up for the Sox. Maybe it's because they are in Indianapolis. New England got it's first big snowstorm and the guys are finally back together on Thursday for the weekend preview. Timmy and Rubba Shoes are here to discuss the remains of the day. When will the Celtics hit a bump and will it include some bruises? Will the Patriots lose a 3rd straight game? Are the Bruins "the haves" and are the Canadiens "the hab nots?" When the Red Sox and the Angels were set to play yet again in the ALDS most people thought it would be business as usual. The Sox have dominated the Halos over the past few seasons when it mattered most. I am not going to sit here and lie to you and say that I was not one of those people, I was thinking that the teams were more evenly matched this season, but none the less the Sox were going to win. Well the day has to come when you no longer have someones number, it happens in every sport (Pats vs Colts is the first that comes to mind) and for the Red Sox it has now happened in back to back seasons. The Tampa Bay Rays lost the "Devil" in their name and then lost the jinx against the Sox and bounced them out in the ALCS.Labels: Boston Red Sox, clay buchholz, Dice-K, Indiapolis Colts, Jason Bay, Jason Varitek, Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim, New England Patriots, Playoffs, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Theo Epstein, Tim Wakefield

The Sox are underway in their quest to add another ring to the jewelery case, do they still have "it?" How are the Bruins and Habs doing for Timmy and Rubba Shoes? In honor of another great win for the New England Patriots in which Tom Brady found two of the three members of the Lollipop Guild (Wes Welker and Julian Edelman) open for completions we have ceremoniously summoned the spirit of the Wizard of Oz to name this episode The Lollipop Guild. While we explored other options that involved Ya Dude's at Gillette and their Super Ex-Girlfriends, we decided to stay on the playing field to name this episode. It wasn't pretty, but the Patriots got it done and are now 3-1, this week, Adam gloats over his standing prediction of a 13-3 finish for the Pats even as the road traveled gets much tougher with the Patriots headed to Denver next week.
The Red Sox provided much less excitement as they are spending their couple of days before the playoffs start trying to figure out which rookie sensation will help them win the World Series this year, even while getting screwed by Brett Favre (Timmy explains.)
And it's fantasy round-up time as the boys round the horn on baseball, football, hockey and nascar. A BIG congratulations to our World Series champion Coach K who went 19-3 with his Bentley Bombers to take home the crown.

With last nights 8-4 win at Tropicana Field, the Red Sox did more then set the Tampa Bay Rays back in their attempts to climb back into the Wild Card race (they are now 6 games back of the BoSox) they also got a monkey off their back. After losing 13 of their last 15 games at the Trop, the Red Sox desperately needed a win and they got it last night on the back of Jon Lester who passed Bruce Hurst for the Red Sox record for most strikeouts in one season by a left-hander. With his 9 strikeouts last night (nice work JL) he has notched 196 strikeouts in the 2009 campaign and is now the left-hander strikeout king for the Red Sox.
It wasn't just Jon Lester that got it done last night, the Sox offense is finally starting to click and this is important if they plan to go deep into the playoffs. While I do believe we will hold on for the wild card, I also think when we get into the playoffs, especially if we go deep into the playoffs, with the state of our pitching rotation we are going to have to win more games by scores like 8-4.
In order to do that we are going to need the bats of Jacoby Ellsbury, Victor Martinez, Dustin Pedroia, Jason Bay and David Ortiz to light up like they have been over the last couple of weeks. We are going to need big hits in big spots, like Big Papi did for us to take us home against the White Sox last week.
Let's be real, the Red Sox pitching rotation is shakey at best at this point so we are going to need big bats in big spots.
Last night it took the whole team to get it done. With the exception of Dustin Pedroia all of the local nine notched hits last night, Papelbon came in and got 3 strikeouts and went two innings to get the job done with a little help from Jacoby Ellsbury on an AMAZING catch at the end of the game and of course their was the pitching from Jon Lester through 6 innings.
It was a win that the Red Sox needed to keep pace in the wild card as the Texas Rangers won against the Blue Jays last night as well. The Red Sox remain 3.5 up in the wild card and with the Yankees on a 5 game winning streak of their own, there is virtually no hope of catching the Skanks for the AL East division win. I think we did alright the last time we got in as the wild card.

It used to be that when Tim Wakefield took to the mound you never really knew what to expect. On the nights when the wind was blowing at Fenway Park and his knuckle ball was moving he was unhittable. On the nights when the air was still and his 80 mph fastball wasn't fooling anyone, you knew you were in for a long night. That was until, this year. Tim Wakefield the all-star is as reliable as they come and last night proved no different. There was something comforting about having him on the mound that made me feel like order had been restored to the nation.
It was all well and good to get a couple of good starts from Brad Penny at the beginning of the season (see ya later by the way.) It was nice to have a dream scenario of Penny and Smoltz teaming up for a great season and one last hoorah with the BoSox. These were nice thoughts that didn't pan out.
Now, with Tim Wakefield back on the mound and pitching well it feels as though order has been restored to the starting rotation. I know, I won't get too far ahead of myself. There is the issue of will Dice-K return and return strong. There is the slumping Josh Beckett. But, going into the home stretch of the season, this is the way our rotation was supposed to look all along. Josh Beckett, Jon Lester, Clay Buckholz, Tim Wakefield and Daisuke Matsusaka. If these pieces start to fall into place, we're looking good down the home stretch.
So, Tim Wakefield was back on the mound last night and he pitched a gem. If only the bullpen hadn't blown it, we wouldn't have needed to see vintage Papi at the end to get the win, but win we did and win we must to make a final push and end up spanking the Yankees in the ALCS...AGAIN!!

I know this is a Boston sports blog and that we spend a lot of time talking about how Tom Brady's injury will impact the New England Patriots season or whether or not David Ortiz's career is over, but Tim and I are both passionate about politics as well and when it comes to Massachusetts politics there was no other like Edward M Kennedy.I haven't discussed it with Tim, but I can be 100% sure that we both disagree on Uncle Teddy's politics (I think we've made our sides known in the health care debate and so has Sen. Kennedy to give you an idea) but I for one think that Senator Ted Kennedy was one of the greatest public servants that this nation has ever seen.
In a day and age when bickering and name calling are the order of the day, Ted Kennedy got legislation through the US Senate at an amazing rate and did it all while remaining civil and friendly with the other side.
This is how I think his approach relates to Wicked Pissa Dude. Tim and I typically disagree about most everything when it comes to politics, but no matter how heated the discussion gets, we remain friends until the end. There needs to be more of this attitude in Washington, where civil disagreement is the approach rather than civil unrest in politics.
Ted Kennedy was a giant among men. He was the least polished of his brothers, but he probably achieved more in his life then any of them ever did. He was a champion for the less fortunate and will be truly missed on the Senate floor, the streets of Massachusetts and in our hearts.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire ate Timmy and his neighborhood buddies alive over the weekend or was it Gooch that did them in? Find out on today's show.Adam and wifey headed north for a return to studio VT for a weeklong getaway. Well, it's a vacation for Adam, because life is a vacation these days, but wifey is hard at work keeping the lights on.
Oh right and there were some sports to discuss. The Red Sox dropped two of three to the Yankees to fall to 7.5 games back of the New York Yankees. It wasn't pretty and the final stretch of the season won't be pretty either if something doesn't spark this team into a win or two or ten.
The Patriots also dropped their 2nd pre-season game to the Bengals, but Timmy and Adam agreed that coach doesn't put a whole lot of stock in wins and losses in the pre-season. Bring on September 14th and the Buffalo Bills.

When Junichi Tazawa can come in and pitch six scoreless innings and close the door on a Yankees lineup who admitedly has been pounding the ball, shouldn't Josh Beckett be able to do the same thing the very next night?
Brad Penny? Now that was somewhat excusable and he is paying the price for giving up an insane amount of runs to the pinstripes, but Josh Beckett? Up until the last two games, he was the odds on favorite to win the AL Cy Young award. NOT ANYMORE.
This Josh Beckett has given up 15 runs over his last two starts and gave up 5 home runs last night alone...yes in ONE GAME. This is NOT the Cy Young winner we have grown to love in the Boston area. This is a guy who just a year ago was pitching in the Japanese Industrial League...oh wait that was the guy who WON this weekend.
The Red Sox went into this weekend on the brink of turning things around. They had just taken three straight from Toronto (which admitedly is not saying much) but with even a couple of wins this weekend they could've been right back into the hunt for the top spot in the AL East. Instead, the normally solid Josh Beckett let the team down when they needed him the most.
The Red Sox are now 7.5 games back of a NY Yankees team that is showing no signs of letting up. The only silver lining for the BoSox is that the Rangers and Rays pounded on each other over the weekend, which has Boston still standing at the top of the AL Wild Card chase by one game.

My what a difference three games make. After getting swept by the New York Yankees and dropping two out of the three from the Texas Rangers, the Red Sox found themselves out of the AL Wild Card lead and on the brink of dropping out of the conversation as to who is the top team in the AL East, but some cool, fresh, Canadian air was all they really needed as they completed the sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays last night at the Roger's Centre.Labels: Boston Red Sox, brad penny, Clay Buckholz, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Junichi Tazawa, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Tim Wakefield, Toronto Blue Jays

With temperatures hitting the mid-90's for the third straight day, the New England Patriots training camp is turning into a sweat-fest. Being in full pads yesterday and again today, Tom Brady and company MUST be burning up right now.Often on the blog and show we start to trash the professional athletes we love because either they are SUCKING (see: Boston Red Sox) or they are whining about one thing or another. So, I wanted to take a moment out and praise these guys for the hard work and dedication they are showing this week and throughout training camp.
Now, I know, they get paid millions and millions of dollars to play a kids game, but I still think it is absolutely remarkable that they put on a ton of pads and go hit the crap out of each other in this heat.
As I sit here typing this, I am in my underwear (you're welcome) and I still can't get cool. All I am doing is typing and sweat is pouring off my face. Now, I am not a finely tuned professional athlete, BUT muscles and cardio fitness are not going to protect you from the sweltering heat that is New England in mid-August.
So here's to you Tom Brady. Here's to you Logan Mankins. Here's to you Randy Moss. Here's to you Tedy Bruschi. And to the rest of the New England Patriots who are battling this heat to get ready to be a finely tuned machine come opening night. We appreciate it.

If the Red Sox weren't going to turn this thing around, I think this would all be bad news, but since I know that they are just a couple of pieces away from first place, this comes in the form of good news.
Directly from the Red Sox fan page on Facebook:
"Good news on the injury front today. Tim Wakefield will pitch on the road at Gwinnett County for Triple-A Pawtucket. He should come back into the rotation right after that, meaning he could start as early as Aug. 20 at Toronto, or perhaps at home against the Yankees over the weekend.
Dice-K also took a positive step today, throwing his first bullpen since going on the DL. Matsuzaka will throw again on Friday, and then on Monday, and presumably start facing hitters after that.
Mike Lowell is not in tonight's lineup, as he is the odd man out a second night in a row."
More on this as it happens, but for now, enjoy the Madden 10 review below and also my playlist for your listening pleasure.

The long horrible trip to New York is over and Adam & Timmy have plenty to talk about. Press conferences and curtain calls, neither of which brought any joy to Red Sox Nation. "Big" news for the Celtics as another favorite son stays home for now. Brady might have a new agent in Ari Gold (Timmy will explain) and the damaged goods that the Bruins have already inherited from north of the border. All that and the fantasy round up for another edition of Wicked Pissa Dude is here for your Monday night. Thanks for listening, subscribe if you haven't yet and tell your friends.Labels: adam, Big Baby, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox, Celtics, Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Nascar, New York City, press conference, Red Sox, Red Sox Nation, timmy, Tom Brady, tom brady injury

Here is the scenario. You have been held scoreless in 31 straight innings. Literally, you have not scored one run in what amounts to 3+ full games of baseball. The superstar you just traded one of your top pitching prospects for comes up to bat with a runner on 1st. He takes the opposing pitcher deep to give your team a 2-1 lead. You've already lost the first three games of the series and have fallen behind your arch rival by 5.5 games and with a loss would fall behind by a seemingly insurmountable 6.5 games. With a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning, your well-rested superstar closer in the pen, what do you do?YOU BRING HIM IN!!!
Jonathon Papelbon has not worked for the Red Sox since his one inning stint in Friday nights marathon game which the Red Sox lost in 15 innings. Sure, he has not been lights out this season, but he is your big game guy. He is the guy you hand the ball to when you NEED to win games and boy did the Red Sox ever need to win this game.
Instead, Terry Francona brought in Daniel Bard to pitch the eighth inning. Bard retired the first two hitters he faced and then gave up back to back home runs to Johnny Damon and Mark Texiera to give the Yankees the lead 3-2.
Still not going to the bullpen for his closer, Tito decided to go with Hideki Okajima who proceeded to give up a double to Jorge Posada and followed by a base hit which drove in two more runs to improve the lead to 5-2. Still no Papelbon!!
So what now? The Red Sox lose 5-2, have been swept by the New York Yankees and have fallen 6.5 games back of the Evil Empire in the race for first place. They are barely holding off the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays and the team is basically for all intents and purposes in shambles.
Is there a silver lining to this mess? I would say, YES. The pitching (aside from Smoltz on Thursday night) has actually been pretty good this series. We held the Yankees scoreless through 14 innings on Friday night, gave up just 3 runs through seven innings on Saturday and tonight held them scoreless through seven. All a pretty good accomplishment against one of the most prolific and highest paid line-ups in baseball.
If the Red Sox bats ever wake up and start to hit again, all will not be lost during this '09 season. But for the time being, we will have to endure more and more offensive duds until the bats get back on track and the Red Sox can gain some ground on the always surging New York Yankees.

I have mixed emotions about today's press conference held by David Ortiz at Yankee Stadium. As Big Papi joined the sad ranks of Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa, it gave me a moment to pause and really consider the circumstances surrounding the performance enhancing drugs situation and what it really means, if anything, for major league baseball.Labels: A-Rod, Barry Bonds, Boston Red Sox, David Ortiz, New York Yankees, Peformance Enhancing Drugs, Sammy Sosa

When this extended four game series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees begin, there was no question that it meant more to the Red Sox then it did to the Yankees. Starting the series 2.5 games back in the AL East and coming off of 2 losses at Tropicana Field, the Red Sox desperately needed a win (or four.)You wouldn't know it by watching the opening night debacle where the Red Sox let their ace...errrrr...Atlanta's ace of a few years ago, John Smoltz take the mound. A disaster in the Bronx on Thursday night.
Tonight, was different though. As I am writing this the game is in the top of the 13th and is 0-0. This is one of those games that is hard to remember who the starting pitchers were, which is sad because they are the ones who got us to this point.
Josh Beckett and AJ Burnett lived up to the hype and then some and when all is said and done, neither will have pitched more than half of the game. Pretty amazing to say the least. The final line on Beckett? 7 innings, 4 hits, 2 BB and 7 K's. The line for Burnett? 7 2/3, 1 hit, 6 BB and 6 K's. Oh and the most important stat, neither gave up a run, of course.
This game is THE reason Red Sox v. Yankees games are more interesting then any other matchup in baseball or maybe even in all of professional sports. They are nail biting, edge of your seat thrillers that keep you guessing. Sure there is the occasional blow out (last night) but for the most part, Sox v. Yankees games are almost always interesting. People in Topeka, Kansas would be into this game if they showed it on TV and inevitably it will be the lead story on Sportscenter.
It is now, the top of the 15th inning. After Junichi Tazawa came on as the final pitcher in the Red Sox dugout, the Yankees proceeded to hit the ball VERY hard. Erik Hinske hit a ball HARD into right field and JD Drew with his full body extended saved the game for the Red Sox. Then it was Melkey Cabrera's turn and his rope down the first base line was inches away from being fair and ending the game, but in the end Tazawa escaped the bottom of the 14th and the Red Sox live to see another inning.
It was a walk-off homerun by Alex Rodriguez that did the Red Sox and Junichi Tazawa in for the night.
This was more then just a midseason classic though, this would have been an important game for the Red Sox to have for a number of reasons. The Red Sox needed this game to get back to within 2.5 games of the Yankees (they are now 4.5 back.) They needed this game to snap a 3 game losing streak (now 4 games.) Probably most importantly, they needed this game, because losing a game like this against any other team sucks, but against the Yankees it is heartbreaking.
But, it was not meant to be and now the Boston Red Sox will have to lean on Jon Lester to get the job done. If they can manage to win the final two games in the Bronx, they will be able to nullify the effect of these last two losses and put them in the rearview mirror, but that is a challenge that will be an uphill battle to say the least.
The Red Sox lose 2-0 in 15 innings against the New York Yankees.

It was bound to happen with Adam and Timmy at the helm. The car went off the road a little bit and they ended up in a hospital somewhere between Hartford and Portsmouth with no insurance and a 1200 page bill about Health Insurance Reform.
Adam and Timmy spent the first half of the show discussing in detail the state of health care and the reform that is being talked about in Congress and throughout the country. A very important issue that requires a lot of discussion and thought. Not surprisingly the two of them didn't agree on much, but one thing they do agree on is that everyone should take the time to educate themselves about the substance of the bill and stand up for what they believe in
So, in that vein, you can read the bill here.
There were also sports to talk about today too with the much anticipated second half of the rivalry starting tonight. Red Sox @ Yankees with the Sox leading the season series 8-0 going into tonight's action.
Coming soon to wickedpissadude.com the Flickr album of Timmy's trip to Patriots training camp last week so keep checking back for that.

I get it. "Doc" Halladay is the sexiest "name" out there as we approach the 2009 trade deadline. He is seemingly the only pitcher in baseball who throws complete games on a regular basis. And if he was added to the Boston rotation, the Sox would have undoubtedly the best rotation in baseball, particularly with a 3-man playoff rotation of Beckett, Lester, and Halladay (Wakefield being the 4th).I mean, look at the lifelong Blue Jay's career numbers, courtesy of baseball reference.com. 142-69 record in 300 games. FORTY FOUR complete games. TWELVE SHUTOUTS. 1410 strikeouts, compared to only 440 walks. That's a better than 3-1 ratio. Six time All Star, one Cy Young award, and 4 top 5 Cy Young finishes. You could easily make a case for him being the best pitcher in baseball.
But here are the most important numbers. 32 years old and parts of 12 Major League Seasons. Despite being at his athletic peak (he notched a career-high 206 strikeouts in 2008), he's not going to be there for long. As hard as he throws, and as deep into games as he goes, he has a very limited shelf life.
The Red Sox would have to mortgage their future to get Doc. They would have to give up arguably their best pitching prospect in Clay Buchholz, and likely their next best prospects in Michael Bowden, and Daniel Bard, possibly more. And that's assuming Toronto's GM JP Ricciardi would even deal his ace within the division. And you know Ricciardi is a smart baseball guy - he still has his Boston accent.
As Randy Booth of overthemonster.com puts it, Sox GM Theo Epstein was faced with a similar dilemma last year, when it would have cost Jon Lester and then some to get another stud, Johan Santana. And Theo (forgive the pun) balked, because the price tag was too steep.
This is clear evidence of a new "stay the course" mentality in Boston that's taken shape with the new regime, particularly over the last 5 years. If today was July 29th, 2004, I'd be all for trading for Halladay. Before the "Curse" was broken, we had to win now at all costs. Our aging fathers and grandfathers were concerned that they would never see a championship in their lifetimes. 86 years of torment had been passed down through the generations. We had to win, to satisfy the older folks, and if anything, to stop those damned chants of "1918" emanating from the Bronx.
But life is different now, after not one, but two World Series Championships. The Sox want to win now AND later. And they are not going to mortgage the next 5-10 years just to say they've won THREE titles since the Yankees last put up a banner. If the Sox added Halladay, they'd be the odds on favorite to win the 2009 World Series. They'd have to be. But then, what happens when Doc becomes a free agent? What if the Yankees outbid us? Where does that leave us for 2010, and beyond?
Now that the animalistic appetite for a championship has been quenched - again, twice - the Sox don't need to mortgage the farm to win this year. And besides, with a rotation of Beckett, Lester, Wakefield, Buchholz, and Penney (sorry Smoltz), I think we've got just as good a chance as anyone.

In the end, Adam and Timmy had a great 4th...two very different celebrations, but equally enjoyable.Adam was in NYC with his wife and sister-in-law for the Shake Shack and ESPN-Zone as well as a visit to Ground Zero and the Statue of Liberty, finished off by fireworks, VERY FUN!!
Timmy's 4th started off a little shakier (see photo to the left) Yup, that's TIMMY'S leg, BEFORE the Carson Memorial race in Chelmsdale. After that fiasco Timmy's 4th was a HUGE celebration with the old Chelmsford crew and the family.
Oh, there were also sports to talk about. The Celtics are getting ready to sign Rasheed Wallace and rumor has it Grant Hill is next. What does this mean for the Green and White? The boys discuss.
Also, Timmy Wakefield made his first All-Star game along with five other Red Sox.

Thought we'd share a couple of great links that we found on weei.com.They've got two great pieces on baseball, one from Curt Schilling on Donald Fehr, the former head of the MLBPA, you can read it here. The other baseball story is a great one from Alex Speier on the Sox draft which you can find here.
The one thing that really peaked our interest today though was the interview that Dennis and Callahan did with Danny Ainge who had some interesting things to say about Rajon Rondo. Listen to it here. We'll certainly be discussing this interview on TNA tomorrow night!!
Great stuff here people, check it all out.

Tonight, the Red Sox go for their ninth straight regular season win against the New York Yankees and their eighth this season. How about that? Dustin Pedroia says that all of the games so far could've gone either way and of course he HAS to say that, but that's not really true.Could the Yankees have won on Tuesday night when the Red Sox won 7-0 and shutout the Bronx Bombers for the first time this season? I don't think so. What about the 16-11 win back in April? I don't think so.
We have flat out outplayed the New York Yankees this season. Sure there were close games, there always will be when we play the Yankees, but we came out on the winning side of the ball and now have sole posession of first place.
So, why is tonights game a "must-win" for the Red Sox? I am sure you're thinking, a "must-win" in June? Well, maybe "must-win" is a bit of an overstatement, but this is a game the Red Sox need to win.
If the Red Sox win tonight, they will be up two games on the Yankees and have a strong hold on first place in the toughest division in baseball.
Here's another reason that this is a "must-win" game for the Red Sox. The Yankees won't see the Red Sox until August 6th, long after the All-Star break. This is not a big deal if they get off the snide tonight and get a win on the board, but think of the mind games being winless against their vaunted rivals the Boston Red Sox would play with the psyche of the team.
One more thing, doesn't A-Rod look skinny since he stopped taking the juice? Good for us, the Curse of A-Rod continues with or without steroids. GO SOX!!

After Timmy dubbed Big Papi, David Ortiz, Big Pop-up a couple of weeks ago, I have been reconsidering my position on the slugger. You see, I am the ultimate optimist and when it comes to hometown heroes like David Ortiz, I like to think the best of them. Sometimes I wonder if I should be more realistic about things, but then I realize I like seeing the world through rose colored glasses. So, I continue to think that Papi is innocent and has not done anything wrong. The only crime I think he may have committed is growing old, but we all do that. This was reinforced by this article by Bill Simmons on ESPN.com.It is neither Big Papi's alleged steroid use or his overnight aging that has me wondering, it's the fact the Red Sox are in first place, virtually without him.
The Boston Red Sox have survived an early slump by David Ortiz (which continues) and they have seen their "ace" pitchers struggle through the first part of the season, but they have the strength in their lineup and the heart of a champion that has kept them plugging away and has positioned them nicely for a real run at another World Series.
The question remains, can they do it without a true slugger? All signs point to the fact that they are going to have to. Without a strong Big Papi in the lineup, the Red Sox sluggers are limited to great hitters who just don't have the same presence that David Ortiz or even Manny Ramirez have. Not taking anything away from Jason Bay, but he really just doesn't strike the same fear in opposing pitchers that a strong David Ortiz does.
So, do the Red Sox need David Ortiz to win another World Series this year? Of course not. They have made it this far without him (virtually of course...he has been there, but hasn't really "been" there) and they will continue to thrive without his bat in the lineup. They will play a different kind of baseball, but they will find a way to win and who is going to stop them? The Rays? Likely not. The Blue Jays? They'll fade. So, it will be the Red Sox v. Yankees in the ALCS again this year and who will win? The team with the bigger bats or the team with the silencing pitching? I vote for pitching, ALWAYS. That is why the Boston Red Sox will defeat the New York Yankees to make it to another World Series this year. I know it's early and a lot can happen, but as it stands now, despite their overwhelming power, the Yankees just simply do not have the pitching strength to match us.
Do the Red Sox really "need" David Ortiz? No, they don't. It would be nice to have him back to his old self again though...seriously.
